From the quoting process all the way through to completion of the building regulations, Richard was reassuring, professional and responsive.

Richard’s advice was spot on and the suggestion of under floor heating has been a revelation. The team at Space were friendly, courteous and respectful of our property. Despite the pandemic and a shortage of many materials, Richard’s initial quote was accurate and the team did their best to minimise any disruption caused.

Having decided to build a two roomed fairly large extension to our existing traditional cottage style property we initially, were anxious about the process of adding on a more modern extension.

However, Richard and his team put our minds at rest from day one. The team arrived on the agreed date and the huge advantage of this company is that they came each and every day until it was completed. This is because they only focus their attention upon one build, unlike most builders who disappear from time to time to work on other sites.

There were no interruptions to our day as the team set up a power point to make their own hot drinks and a portable toilet in the garden.

During the build, the site remained tidy and materials arrived punctually when required. Richard took great care matching the bricks to our original brickwork and he had an eye for detail, such as the tile work above the bay window. All aspects of the job including brickwork, roofing, joinery, heating and electrical installations and painting were done to a very professional standard and the finished rooms look stunning.

We cannot recommend this team enough as our new rooms reflect the quality of workmanship and the care taken by Richard to ensure the extension was in keeping with the original house. He even has returned many months later to check all is well as buildings need to adjust to temperature changes.

We have been more than happy to show prospective customers our extension and speak of our faith in this company, which totally took the worry out of undertaking building work.

For my single story rear extension, I obtained three quotes from local builders. Space Builders certainly weren’t the cheapest – but from the outset Richard inspired confidence with both his knowledge and understanding of the job and his in-depth and regular communication.

Richard understood the emotional purpose of the extension – what I wanted to achieve with it, not just the bricks and mortar – as well as my desire to retain the character (in this instance, an original range-style fireplace) of the original room.

As such I felt able to leave certain aspects of that “conundrum” to him. He resolved it with flair and in a way that both surprised and delighted me, relocating the range so that it didn’t detract from my new view. I would never have considered that solution myself.

The Space Builders team are an integral part of the business and from the moment they were on site they were all cheerful, speedy and methodical. All in all, they were a pleasure to have on site.

Richard’s logistics were pretty impressive too. I live on a busy road where any double-parking or prolonged deliveries could have caused havoc but this was handled expeditiously. The creation of the cement footings for example, was like watching a military campaign, with crew already lined up with their wheelbarrows as the lorry arrived. This ensured a continuous ferrying of cement to the rear extension, which in turn meant that the lorry was on site for the shortest possible time.

Richard’s paperwork couldn’t be faulted either, with a regular series of payments itemised in advance. Any queries were thoroughly explained and I am very happy that I received excellent value for money.
I am very pleased with what the extension has achieved for my property and would recommend Space Builders to anyone.

We commissioned Richard as our builder for an ambitious 2 story, front and rear extension. We met and received tenders from a number of firms but after meeting Richard we were struck by both his frankness, and also his determination to understand what we wanted out of this build from a personal perspective; not a transactional one. A key differentiator.

We did not regret our decision during the build at any point. His team is first rate – polite, smart and immaculate when it comes to site safety and tidiness. When friends were doing similar builds they dreaded the chaos and mess; we suffered none of this and thoroughly enjoyed Richard and his wider team’s company throughout. When budgets became challenging (as they always do!), Richard and the team made us focus on what mattered allowing us to ensure we can make our property as good as it can be in the years to come. Decisions we later found to be spot on!

The real value added from my perspective though is the support he has given us ‘post build’. Richard or one of his key team have been there to resolve the few niggles there were and have done it with a smile on their face.

We have more work to do and when the coffers are replenished, there’s only one place we’ll go: Team Space.
